What does ChatGPT advertising cost, and when is a test worth the money?
See what Intro to ChatGPT advertising includes, how to calculate a defensible test budget, and which results you should assess after 30 days.
Intro at Media Access costs NOK 4,990 for 30 days excl. VAT, with ad spend included. You get setup of one ad, a report, and a dedicated contact person. The test carries no further obligations.
To assess the price, however, you need more than just an amount. You need to know what the cost covers, what a new customer is worth to the business, and which questions the test is meant to help answer. Here is a practical way to make that assessment.
What is included in Intro
The NOK 4,990 covers both the ad work and the ad spend during the test period. In other words, the ad budget is not added on top. The offer includes one ad, follow-up from a dedicated contact person, and a report that you review together.
This amount is Media Access’s price for Intro and should not be understood as OpenAI’s minimum price or a general market price for ChatGPT advertising. Projects that require a new website, integrations, or more extensive materials should be clarified separately. Ask for a written description if your needs go beyond the published delivery.
Click price tells only part of the story
OpenAI describes, among other things, payment per click and per thousand impressions. Price and actual delivery are affected by the campaign setup and the ad auction. It is therefore not possible to derive a specific number of clicks from a fixed agency price.
When comparing offers, use the same cost basis. A report that shows only the platform cost cannot be compared directly with an offer that includes work and follow-up. In a profitability assessment, your own time and any add-ons are also relevant.
Calculation example: How many customers must the test generate?
This is a simplified illustration, not a forecast for the ads. Assume that a new customer provides a contribution margin of NOK 4,000 after the costs of delivering the service. To cover the test price of NOK 4,990, you would then need two such customers: One gives NOK 4,000, while two give NOK 8,000.
If one in four qualified enquiries usually becomes a customer, each qualified enquiry corresponds to an expected contribution of NOK 1,000: 25 percent times NOK 4,000. That is a starting point for what you can afford to pay, before taking into account your own sales effort, other costs, and desired profit.
Use your own numbers. A submitted form is not necessarily a qualified enquiry, and five enquiries do not reliably produce a sale. If the sale only happens several months later, you must continue following up the contacts after the ad period itself.
| Contribution margin per new customer | At least this number of customers | Total contribution margin |
|---|---|---|
| NOK 1,000 | 5 | NOK 5,000 |
| NOK 2,500 | 2 | NOK 5,000 |
| NOK 4,000 | 2 | NOK 8,000 |
Create a simple plan for the 30 days
Choose one primary action, for example a relevant quote request. Then write down what makes the request relevant. For a tradesperson, that could be the right type of job within the delivery area. For an online store, it could be a completed purchase with an acceptable margin.
Test the form before the advertising starts. Confirm that the enquiry reaches the right recipient, that the source is recorded, and that the customer receives a clear response. Also agree on who updates the status when an enquiry becomes a quote, a sale, or a rejection. Without that link, you can easily end up measuring forms instead of business.
- Before launch: Agree on the offer, total price, goal, landing page, and responsibility for follow-up.
- Early in the period: Check that traffic is being recorded and that the full contact journey works.
- During the campaign: Note whether the inquiries are a good fit, what questions customers ask, and why some drop off.
- At the end of the period: Review delivery, costs, and lead quality. Separate completed sales from cases that are still open.
- Afterwards: Follow up on unresolved sales and make a separate decision on any further advertising.
Four outcomes that require four different responses
A weak month can have several explanations. Avoid lumping everything together under the label of whether the channel works or does not work. Use the observations to choose the next action.
A few sales or rejections can shift the picture significantly in a small test. So include both counts and percentages in the report, and note how many cases remain unresolved. An end date does not make a small sample statistically reliable.
| Observation | Next question |
|---|---|
| Low delivery | Was the campaign approved and active throughout the full period, and was the setup suitable for generating delivery? |
| Clicks, but few inquiries | Is the offer clear, is the page quick to use, and is the contact path simple? |
| Many low-relevance inquiries | Does the ad promise something different from what the business delivers, or are the customer criteria unclear? |
| Relevant inquiries, but few sales | Are the cases still open, or are they stalling on price, capacity, or follow-up? |
Questions you should ask before ordering
A clear agreement makes it easier to build on what you learn, whether you continue with the same provider or choose a different solution.
- What is included in the total price, and does any of the work require a separate agreement?
- Who owns the ad account, and what access will the business have to reporting?
- How do we distinguish ad clicks from relevant inquiries and completed sales?
- What happens if the launch is delayed or the ad does not get delivery?
- When will we receive the report, and what must be clarified before any further advertising?
Questions and answers
Is ad spend added on top of the Intro price?
No. Ad spend is included in NOK 4 990 for 30 days excl. VAT. The price also covers setup of one ad, a report, and a dedicated contact person.
Is there any commitment after the 30 days?
No. You have no further obligations. Any continued advertising is agreed separately after the review.
How many clicks or customers will I get?
No guaranteed number is stated. The offer, campaign delivery, landing page, and sales follow-up all affect what the test can deliver. The calculation examples are illustrations.
