ChatGPT Ads has arrived in Europe, and European advertisers have access to the self-serve Ads Manager. For your business, this means a new opportunity to present a relevant offer while people research products, services, and suppliers.

The useful question is what you should test first. A good start requires a concrete offer, a functioning landing page, and agreement on how you will assess the results. Here you get both the current status and a working basis for the first decision.

This is the confirmed launch status

OpenAI announced its expansion to 31 European markets on 18 August 2026 and confirmed self-service access on 31 August. Eligibility depends on the country where the advertising legal entity is established.

The status in this article was checked on 6 September 2026. When evaluating a supplier, ask for the onboarding to be tied to the actual ad account: Who owns it, who pays the platform, and who follows up on any rejections? A launch announcement alone says little about how your project should be carried out.

What is a ChatGPT ad?

The ad may appear below a ChatGPT response and is clearly labelled as sponsored. Ads can reach adult users on Free and Go, while Plus, Pro, and Business, among others, are ad-free. The advertiser does not get access to users’ private conversations and cannot pay to appear inside the response itself.

Think carefully, then, about who you want to reach. The fact that a customer uses ChatGPT during the workday does not automatically mean they can see ads. Define the target audience through the situation and the need you solve, and evaluate results based on the traffic the campaign actually delivers.

Adapt the offer to what the customer is trying to find out

OpenAI lets advertisers describe relevant needs and situations using so-called context hints. This gives the system context around the offer. It does not reserve specific questions, and it does not guarantee delivery when someone uses a particular wording.

Our advice is to start with the questions you already get from customers. Pull up the latest enquiries, remove personal data, and sort the recurring issues. Choose the need for which you have a clear offer and the capacity to deliver. That gives you a better starting point for the ad work than a list of general industry terms.

An example: The same restaurant, three different needs

This is a hypothetical planning example, not documented campaign results. A restaurant in Oslo is considering three offers. Before ordering an ad, it connects each need to a specific action on the website.

Choose one of the needs for a small initial test. If the ad promises an easy group dinner, the customer should be able to sort out a group dinner on the page. A general homepage that hides the booking makes it harder to understand what happened after the click.

Illustration of how customer questions can become a concrete offer
Customer needWhat the restaurant should clarifyNext step on the website
Dinner with children before a showAn early table, children’s menu, and actual distance to the venueBooking for the right time and number of people
Business dinner for a small teamNoise level, group size, and whether a single invoice is possibleEnquiry with date and number of guests
Vegetarian dinner in the city centreWhich dishes are actually available on today’s menuUpdated menu and table booking

The value of being early is the knowledge you build

It can be useful to start while the channel is new, because you gain first-hand experience you can use in later budget decisions. You may discover which questions the offer answers, whether the website explains it clearly enough, and what customers need before they get in touch.

At the same time, set a limit on what the learning is worth. If the order form does not work or no one can follow up on enquiries, that should be fixed before the ad goes live. A new ad format does not replace that part of the sales process. There is also no documentation here that supports promising lower click prices or a lasting competitive advantage simply because you start early.

Clarify these six points before getting started

Use the list in a meeting with the person creating the ad. The points should lead to clear answers that both parties can refer back to after the test period.

  • Offer: Which service or product should get the attention, and what is actually included?
  • Customer: What need should the ad address, and who is the offer a poor fit for?
  • Delivery area: Where can you deliver, and is this as clear on the website as it is in the ad?
  • Action: Should the customer place an order, request a quote, or call, and has the full journey been tested on mobile?
  • Financials: What is the agreed total price, which costs are included, and when does the test end?
  • Follow-up: Who responds to the customer, what counts as a relevant enquiry, and when will the results be evaluated?

How to get started with Media Access

Intro costs NOK 4,990 for 30 days excl. VAT. Ad spend is included, along with setup of one ad, a report, and a dedicated contact person. You have no further obligations after the test period.

Bring one offer and one specific goal into the first conversation. When the period is over, the decision should be based on both the numbers and the quality of the enquiries. Low traffic may mean you need more information before drawing conclusions. Lots of clicks without relevant conversations is a different problem and calls for a different assessment.
